Picture this…
60 kids walk into their birthday party.
And instead of balloons and clowns, they find a murder mystery waiting to be solved.
What do you think?
Will it get your little ones all excited, interacting and engaging among themselves, instead of being stuck to their phones and giving you the eye-roll throughout?
We made it happen. At the KRISTAR banquet hall in Ahmedabad.
Find out how we did it, how it turned out – and how you can host something just like that for your own kids’ birthday!
From banquet hall to portable escape rooms
So this thing took place at KRISTAR – Serviced by Soulinaire, Banquets & Convention in Thaltej.
An 11-year-old had their birthday there and invited 60 of their friends.
And their parents had hired our escape room anywhere service.
To better handle the restless young champs and inspire friendly competition,
We divided the space into six mini escape rooms, each designed to host 10 children.
Setting things up
We brought in locks, boxes, clue folders, sound elements, and lighting props.
The games included fog creeping in, dimmed lights, eerie background sound, and clue boards laid out like a crime lab setup.
When the party turned up, they were in awe. One even said
“This is a party that everyone is going to remember!”
The murder mystery
“Breaking news: Cricketer Shane Warne has been found dead in the middle of his own celebration. The police tried to investigate — but failed. They’ve left behind an incomplete case file. You have 40 minutes to finish it, crack the clues, and expose the killer.”
That was the briefing every team got as they entered their rooms.
Each group had somewhat different clues, puzzles, hints, and props, but we planned it all to tie back to the storyline and killer.
And we made things even more fun by making it a contest – the 6 groups were racing to see who could crack the case first.
How the guests took it
Kids who normally shy away from group activities were leaning over clue boards, debating suspects, and high-fiving when a code was cracked.
And parents?
They were watching half amused and half amazed at how involved the kids got.
The winning moment
All six rooms were buzzing with theories, wild guesses, and dramatic “I’ve cracked it!” moments.
Even our game masters were surprised and excited with all the whispering over clue sheets and guarding of solutions like top secret.
And then… one team rang the bell.
The birthday boy’s team had pieced together the final clue. The moment their suspicion was confirmed, they jumped up like they had just won the World Cup.
The best part? The other teams weren’t sulking. They persisted, trying to crack their own set of clues.
That’s when you know a party activity truly worked.
Handing over the trophy
We handed over a mini Detective Trophy to the winning team.
The birthday boy was all smiles, as was the rest of his group.
What made this portable escape room birthday click with both kids and parents
- The kids weren’t waiting to be entertained. They were busy hunting clues and outsmarting other teams.
- Instead of wondering what are we supposed to be doing here?, they were grouped, focused, and into the game.
- The parents sat back and watched their kids have fun and think critically together – all without being told to “go play.”
- And we organized the whole thing – parents didn’t have to get involved in planning.
Want a portable escape room for your kid’s birthday? Here’s how it works
You don’t need to plan a big production or run around coordinating games.
Here’s all it takes:
- Pick the venue: A banquet hall, a farmhouse, or even your living room.
- Choose a theme: Murder mystery, fantasy quest, zombie outbreak, whatever your kid is into.
- We arrive with props, locks, clue folders, fog effects, sound, lighting, the works.
- The experience unfolds – briefing, game hosting, clue handling, and trophy moment.
You just sit back and watch your kids turn into detectives, doing something together instead of staring at screens.
